Designing A Senior Apartment With Beauty, Comfort, and Safety

It is important that seniors understand the vision for the space you will be designing for their apartment. Creating a clear and unobstructed path will give them accessibility and freedom in their movement. In order to make sure that design architecture will support the elderly, ensuring complete design details with a vision of comfort and space for aging populations will make them feel they belong.

There are factors for consideration in the apartment design for seniors. Aging populations will have physical limitations or psychological challenges that designers will account for including their decrease in mobility, higher risk of slipping or falling, incontinence, memory, hearing or vision loss and a feeling of loneliness or isolation. In addition, the elderly normally experienced visual impairments that make it hard to see in dim light. A combination of natural light and soft artificial lighting in space will solve the problem. Lastly, private bathrooms are more comfortable for the elderly who have incontinence because they usually change sanitary pads or their clothes in privacy and even easier for caregivers to help their clients use the toilet or change.

At any rate, the final design will ensure that elderly will feel as comfortable as possible in these community spaces. And that every detail of design will provide unique needs and feel comfortable. Everyone wants to live in dignity, and this is very true as we age.
